Softball Game Preview: Midlothian Panthers vs. Corsicana Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Midlothian Panthers duke it out with Corsicana Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Midlothian is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Midlothian and Red Oak, and Midlothian kept the tradition alive. Midlothian came out on top against Red Oak by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Abby Insley tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aniyah Givens, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Madison Howard also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Midlothian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Corsicana made sure to put some runs up on the board against Kaufman on Wednesday. Everything went Corsicana's way against Kaufman as Corsicana made off with a 17-2 victory. The contest marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season so far.

Midlothian's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Corsicana, their record now sits at 5-8-1.

Midlothian beat Corsicana 13-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2021. The rematch might be a little tougher for Midlothian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
