Volleyball Recap: Corona Del Sol Falls Short Against Ranked Sunnyslope

Corona del Sol faced Sunnyslope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Aztecs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, with their most recent defeat being a 2-0 loss last Saturday.

Corona del Sol started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 26-24, 25-13, 25-21.

Their offense was headlined by Jalynn Drake and Hayden Conner, who picked up 12 kills apiece. They got some help from Adelyn Chang and her 34 assists. Erin Clark controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Sunnyslope was led to victory by Emma Easton and Lainey Johnson. Easton had 13 digs and three aces, while Johnson had seven digs and two aces. Easton is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Corona del Sol's defeat ended a five-match streak of away wins and brought them to 29-5. As for Sunnyslope, their win ended a four-match drought at home and bumped them up to 21-12.

Corona del Sol didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Millennium on the 23rd. As for Sunnyslope, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Xavier College Prep on the 23rd.
