Softball Recap: Ponaganset Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with St. Raphael Academy

Ponaganset faced St. Raphael Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Chieftains fell just short of the Saints by a score of 3-2. The Chieftains haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Maia Salvo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Duncan, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Ponaganset's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for St. Raphael Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponaganset will host North Kingstown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Skippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something the Chieftains will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Raphael Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Barrington at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
