Softball Recap: North Providence Takes a Loss

North Providence had lost six straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it seven. They lost 21-1 to the Scituate Spartans. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2016.

North Providence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Heon, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Heon is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for Scituate, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Scituate's side, Isabella Rotondo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Rotondo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Maggiacomo, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Sofia Melia also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Providence will host Davies Career & Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Scituate, they will be playing at home against North Kingstown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Skippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
