AAAA Region 5 recap Oct. 16, 2012

Sandy Creek extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 5 this week by beating Shaw, 51-26. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Patriots.

Fayette County took down Columbus 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Sandy Creek's dynamic duo of Cole Garvin and Demarre Kitt proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garvin threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Kitt had 96 yards receiving. Kyle Wilson helped Sandy Creek's passing attack out by catching three balls for 76 yards.

Trey Chivers was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 91 yards on 14 carries as Carrollton beat Shaw. Teammate Malik Sheppard added to the ground attack by rushing for 54 yards.

The Patriots' Garvin and Kitt have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Garvin has thrown for 1242 yards this season, while Kitt, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 443 yards. Chivers from the Trojans leads the league in rushing with 611 yards.

A big matchup in AAAA Region 5 this week will be when Carrollton takes on Kyle Adkins' team. As it stands, the Trojans are in third, while the Raiders are in fourth.

Alexander made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,148 from 10,454. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-28 victory over the Cougars last week.
