Softball Recap: Paul Laurence Dunbar Takes a Loss

Paul Laurence Dunbar extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-11 in the process. They came up short against the Frankfort Panthers, falling 11-1. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 12-2.

As for Frankfort, their record is now 6-7. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Frankfort's part, Taylor Gaines made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Gaines has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Cook, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sadie Dungan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paul Laurence Dunbar will square off against Montgomery County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Frankfort, they will challenge Ballard Memorial at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
