Volleyball Recap: Kade Deraney Key Part of Team Effort in Nighthawks Win

Newtown's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Brookfield Bobcats with a sharp 3-0 win. The Nighthawks haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

The final score came out to 25-13, 25-15, 25-20.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newtown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kade Deraney, who had five digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Deraney a new career-high in assists (29). Another player making a difference was Noel Mcleod, who had nine kills and six digs.

Newtown's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Brookfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newtown will challenge rival Masuk at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Nighthawks have won four straight at home, while the Panthers won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Brookfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Pomperaug at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
