Maclay proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Wakulla War Eagles 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Marauders have posted against the War Eagles since February 23, 2021.

Noah Chavez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Chavez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JR Thompson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Nicky Fiore also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Maclay hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Maclay has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Wakulla's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Coming up, Maclay will be playing at home against South Walton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Maclay 3.9, South Walton 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Wakulla, they will venture away from home to square off against Chiles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
