Softball Game Preview: Godley Wildcats vs. Alvarado Indians

For the first time this season, Godley will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Alvarado Indians at 6:30 p.m. Alvarado took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Godley, who comes in off a win.

Alvarado will be up against a hot Godley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Godley put the hurt on Stephenville with a sharp 13-5 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hayden Keeton made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karlee Clark, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Sierra Beratto was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases.

Meanwhile, Alvarado came up short against Hillsboro on Tuesday, falling 22-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Payton Slovak was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Alvarado's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Godley, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

Godley took their victory against Alvarado when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0. Does Godley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Alvarado turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
