Football Game Preview: Ellison Eagles vs. Brenham Cubs + Official Tickets

Two dominant signal callers in Marlyn Smith and Xyran Upshaw are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ellison Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Brenham Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Ellison is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 56-7 win over Waco. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Lions are ranked 790th).

Ellison can attribute much of their success to Evan Dowling, who rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries, and Kae'Andre Sayles, who picked up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Those 104 rushing yards gave Dowling a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Juan Ramirez, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Brenham put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Rudder to the tune of 53-13. With the Cubs ahead 50-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Ellison better keep an eye on Chris Guidry. He was instrumental in Brenham's win, picking up 162 receiving yards and three TDs. Guidry really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 71 yards.

Brenham's record now sits at 7-0. As for Ellison, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4.

Ellison suffered a grim 50-28 defeat to Brenham when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
