Softball Recap: Goshen Central Sets Scoring Season-High Against Monticello

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen Central). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Monticello Panthers a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The Gladiators haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Anna Mayo was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mayo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Goshen Central got a massive performance out of Sophia Springer, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Springer has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marley Northrup, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Goshen Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello only posted a batting average of .118.

Goshen Central's record is now 6-2. As for Monticello, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Goshen Central will welcome Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Monticello, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Valley Central at 3:30 p.m. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
