The Huntington Red Devils will challenge the Anahuac Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Huntington will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Huntington and Pollok Central had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Considering the Red Devils have won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Whitley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chesney Bearden, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Anderson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Huntington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Orangefield hit Anahuac with a ten-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost five in a row.
Keeley Butler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Granger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Huntington pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Anahuac, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6-2.
Huntington came up short against Anahuac in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
