Baseball Game Preview: Elmira Express vs. Corning-Painted Post Hawks

Elmira and Corning-Painted Post are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Express will challenge the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Elmira has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Elmira took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Union-Endicott 2-0. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Express as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Logan Demember made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Elmira is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. Demember was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Corning-Painted Post lost 10-3 to Aquinas Institute on Thursday.

Elmira's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Corning-Painted Post, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Elmira came up short against Corning-Painted Post when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Express avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
