Baseball Recap: Summers County Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Summers County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Midland Trail Patriots 14-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-1 on Tuesday.

Robey Brown and Colten Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Brown went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Jones went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Summers County is 4-1 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 3-13-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cody Snavely, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Summers County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.4.

Summers County's victory bumped their record up to 7-14-1. As for Midland Trail, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Coming up, Summers County is taking a road trip to face off against Greenbrier West at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.9 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Midland Trail, they will welcome Wyoming East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
