Baseball Game Preview: Harlingen South Hawks vs. San Marcos Rattlers

The Harlingen South Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the San Marcos Rattlers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Harlingen South's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Carroll 7-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Hawks have posted since April 16, 2024.

The result came thanks to Richard Pizano's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Josh Ruiz was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Kris Cruz also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Marcos). Everything went their way against Santa Gertrudis Academy on Thursday as San Marcos made off with an 11-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rattlers.

The victory got Harlingen South back to even at 2-2. As for San Marcos, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Harlingen South was able to grind out a solid victory over San Marcos in their previous meeting back in March of 2020, winning 8-3. Does Harlingen South have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Marcos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
