League recap: Capistrano Valley win leads to rise in state rank

Capistrano Valley moved up to 161 from 199 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sea View. The Cougars were able to make move up by besting San Juan Hills 24-7.

Capistrano Valley made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,674 from 2,089. The improvement came about via a 24-7 victory over the Stallions last week.

Dana Hills's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mac Vail threw for 249 and three touchdowns and Logan Warren had 118 yards receiving. On the ground Brian Scott chipped in 56 yards. Elliot Sutherland-Dunning helped Dana Hills' passing attack out by catching three balls for 50 yards.

6-foot-4 quarterback Nathan Cole of Aliso Niguel is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2825. He has also thrown 34 touchdowns. On the ground, the Dolphins' Marcus Hughes has rushed for 511 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kyle Mucerino. The San Juan Hills star has 44 catches for 814 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Wolverines take on Matt Poston's team. Aliso Niguel is in fourth place, while the Cougars are in first place.

Laguna Hills led Sea View in scoring this week after putting up 31 points on Dana Hills.
