Softball Recap: United South Comes Up Short

United South extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 13-16-1 in the process. They lost 8-0 to the Eagle Pass Eagles. Considering the last time the Panthers couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.

United South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrea Guerrero, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Eagle Pass, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Eagle Pass' side, Sofia Torres tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Torres has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Krysta Ruiz was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Karina Gomez, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

United South has already played their next game, a 13-4 loss against Laredo LBJ on the 16th. As for Eagle Pass, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Del Rio on the 15th.
