Softball Game Preview: Greenon Knights vs. Catholic Central Irish

For the second straight game, Greenon will face off against Catholic Central. The Knights are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against the Irish at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Greenon has three straight wins, Catholic Central has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Greenon had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Catholic Central on Monday. The Knights blew past the Irish 19-2. The Knights not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1, 2024.

Kylie Birt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Birt was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Birt is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Greenon got a massive performance out of Peyton Walker, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs Walker has posted since back in April of 2024. Sophie Blessing was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 1-for-2.

Greenon pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.0 runs this season. As for Catholic Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
