Softball Recap: Minnechaug Regional Falcons vs. Longmeadow Lancers
Minnechaug Regional extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They fell 7-4 to the Longmeadow Lancers. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lancers earlier this season, when they won 8-6.
Kaelyn Dionne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mylie Mittler, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Longmeadow, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games.
On Longmeadow's side, Livia Kelly made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Kelly has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Delaney Schrager was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Palma, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Coming up, Minnechaug Regional will take on South Hadley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Longmeadow, they will face off against West Springfield at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
