Recap: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. West Wendover Wolverines

The Battle Mountain Longhorns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to West Wendover 38-32. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Battle Mountain in their matchups with West Wendover: they've now lost four in a row.

Battle Mountain lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lisette Haney, who scored eight points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Stevlana Martinez, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.

West Wendover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lesly Tovar, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Tovar hasn't dropped below three steals for 15 straight games. Another player making a difference was Priscila Simental, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Battle Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for West Wendover, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will take on Silver Stage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Silver Stage is on a four-game streak of home losses, Battle Mountain a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. West Wendover is on the road again on Friday and plays Sierra Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Sierra Lutheran is ranked 69th, while West Wendover is ranked 50th).
