Baseball Recap: Cottondale Comes Up Short

Cottondale and Port St. Joe squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Cottondale had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Tiger Sharks by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hornets have suffered since March 18th.

Wyatt Speers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Cottondale's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Port St. Joe, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-10.

While Cottondale had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
