Baseball Recap: Moorpark Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Simi Valley, Moorpark was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Ventura Cougars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Musketeers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Moorpark got a great performance from Ronan O'Connell as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. O'Connell has become a key player for Moorpark: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Moorpark's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Derek Nickels, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Nolan Johnson was another, getting no hits from his two at bats.

The win got Moorpark back to even at 5-5. As for Ventura, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-5-1 record.

Looking ahead, Moorpark will face off against Camarillo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ventura, they will square off against Grant Community at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
