The San Mateo Bearcats will head out to square off against the Aragon Dons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Mateo is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
San Mateo proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mills, sneaking past 5-3.
Celia Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Demi Alfonso was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Destina Zhou, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
San Mateo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mills struck out seven times.
Hillsdale hit Aragon with a five-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Dons lost 11-1 to the Knights. The Dons have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Aragon's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for San Mateo, their record is now 13-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Mateo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Aragon struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Mateo came up short against Aragon in their previous meeting back in March, falling 6-1. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
