Softball Recap: Fenwick Gets the Win

Fenwick hadn't done well against Providence Catholic recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Friars walked away with a 7-4 win over the Celtics. This was payback for the Friars, who suffered a 15-9 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leah Lowery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Purta, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kailey Janda, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Fenwick now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Providence Catholic, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

Coming up, Fenwick is taking a road trip to face off against Aurora Central Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Friars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Providence Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Laurence at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
