Softball Recap: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Comes Up Short

St. Paul's Girls hit Our Lady of Mount Carmel with a six-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars took a 15-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gators.

Erin Martin put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and 11 unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Libercci made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Caitlyn Nelson was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one double.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for St. Paul's Girls, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-3 defeat against Roland Park Country on the 28th.
