Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nathan Leeper and Colter Blakey Lead Eagle Valley to Victory

Eagle Valley had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 21-point drubbing they dealt Steamboat Springs on Friday. The Devils blew past the Sailors 35-14. The result was nothing new for the Devils, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

Leading Eagle Valley to victory were Colter Blakey and Nathan Leeper. Blakey threw for 263 yards and three TDs while completing 76% of his passes, while Leeper gained 184 total yards and two touchdowns. That's the most passing yards Blakey has posted since back in October of 2024. Malachi Barros was in the mix too, providing Eagle Valley with two touchdowns.

Eagle Valley didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Steamboat Springs to a completion percentage of just 47.8%. The Devils have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.

Despite the loss, Steamboat Springs still got an impressive performance from Thomas Krupp, who rushed for 279 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 17.4 yards per carry. Krupp's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

Eagle Valley's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their offensive performance: the team's won by an average of 23.5 points thus far. As for Steamboat Springs, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Looking ahead, Eagle Valley will face off against Glenwood Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Steamboat Springs, they will venture away from home to take on Buena Vista at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 897 yards in their previous games.
