Basketball Recap: Springs Valley Comes Up Short

Springs Valley lost against Barr-Reeve back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Springs Valley Blackhawks took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Barr-Reeve Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Blackhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Vikings are ranked 153rd).

When it comes to explaining why Springs Valley lost, don't look at Keyton Jones. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 17 on his way to 28 points. Those 28 points gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Hamilton, who posted eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Barr-Reeve to victory, but perhaps none more so than Seth Wagler, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. Jake Pauw was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Springs Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Barr-Reeve, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Springs Valley will take on Crawford County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Barr-Reeve, they will face off against South Spencer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Barr-Reeve is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
