Upper Perkiomen had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 2-6-1 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Pope John Paul II 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted against Pope John Paul II since April 9, 2021.
Jocelyn Sledgen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Olivia Gehringer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Brooke Sullivan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Upper Perkiomen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
As for Pope John Paul II, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-3. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs.
On Pope John Paul II's side, Sophia Benincasa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Rylee Derecola was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Upper Perkiomen will face off against Pottstown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pope John Paul II, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 10-1 defeat against Methacton on the 14th.
