Baseball Recap: Mountain Lake/Comfrey Comes Up Short

Mountain Lake/Comfrey extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They fell 5-2 to the Cleveland Clippers. Mountain Lake/Comfrey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cleveland apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mountain Lake/Comfrey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Khalid Fontanez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Fontanez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Cleveland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Cleveland's side, Caleb Connor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Brennan Kortuem was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Nathan Seeman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Mountain Lake/Comfrey wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Adrian/Ellsworth on the 13th. As for Cleveland, they have also already played their next match, a 10-3 win against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on the 12th.
