Baseball Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Wahoo/Bishop Neumann Warriors

Waverly and Wahoo/Bishop Neumann are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. Waverly is taking a road trip to challenge Wahoo/Bishop Neumann at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wahoo/Bishop Neumann took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Waverly, who comes in off a win.

Waverly took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Platteview, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since April 25, 2024.

Waverly got a great performance from Kael Lade as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Lade posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Zach McElhose was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

Meanwhile, Wahoo/Bishop Neumann came up short against Lincoln Northwest on Saturday and fell 7-2.

Wahoo/Bishop Neumann saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Marxsen, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Waverly's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Wahoo/Bishop Neumann, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Waverly took their win against Wahoo/Bishop Neumann when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waverly since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
