Baseball Recap: Arizona Lutheran Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against ALA - Anthem South

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arizona Lutheran Academy). They put the hurt on the ALA - Anthem South Titans with a sharp 16-1 victory on Tuesday. With that win, the Coyotes brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Rafael Guerrero was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Arizona Lutheran Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise. Guerrero was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Colton Pennington was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Arizona Lutheran Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Xavier Gonzales was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases.

Arizona Lutheran Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Arizona Lutheran Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for ALA - Anthem South, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
