Basketball Recap: Prairie View Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Avery Wellbrink and Briley Lane

Prairie View Academy fought the good fight in their overtime game against Porter's Chapel Academy on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Porter's Chapel Academy Eagles 35-30. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 29-26.

Prairie View Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Briley Lane and Avery Wellbrink. Lane dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards, while Wellbrink almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Wellbrink a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Ouellette, who posted four points.

Prairie View Academy dropped their record down to 9-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Porter's Chapel Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing River Oaks the next time they take the court. Prairie View Academy will host River Oaks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Porter's Chapel Academy will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
