Baseball Recap: Vandercook Lake Jayhawks vs. Hanover-Horton Comets
Vandercook Lake had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it 15. They came up short against the Hanover-Horton Comets, falling 17-2. The Jayhawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Comets from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Vandercook Lake saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Todd Atkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Atkins has snagged this season.
As for Hanover-Horton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Hanover-Horton's side, Luke Soper was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wooster, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.
