Basketball Recap: Effingham County Takes a Loss

Effingham County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 71-28 loss at the hands of the Walton Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while the Raiders are ranked 105th).

Effingham County got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Rachel Reagan and Shania Jenkins, who each put up three points.

Walton was led to victory by Alice Zhang and Graycen Ehlen. Zhang went 7 of 16 on her way to 19 points, while Ehlen dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Zhang a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Evie Harkey, who posted five points and six steals.

Effingham County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Walton, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Effingham County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-27 loss against Lakeside on the 7th. Walton has also already played their next game, a 47-31 victory against North Cobb on the 7th.
