Softball Recap: Brimfield Beats Kewanee for Their 16th Straight Victory

Brimfield came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Kewanee Boilermakers. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 16 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Sawyer Drury's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brimfield let Reese Legaspi and Brooke Allen run wild. Legaspi went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Allen went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Allen a new career-high. Schyer Meinders also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Brimfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kewanee struck out 14 times.

Brimfield pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Kewanee, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.

Looking ahead, Brimfield will head out on the road to face off against Heyworth at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kewanee, they will host Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Boilermakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
