Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, South Sumter couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Umatilla Bulldogs by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

South Sumter got a good showing from Grant Polk, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Polk has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hunter Gill made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ismael Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double.

South Sumter's record now sits at 23-5. As for Umatilla, their win bumped their record up to 17-14.

While South Sumter had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
