Basketball Game Preview: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Springstead Eagles

Weeki Wachee is 0-10 against Springstead since January of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Weeki Wachee Hornets will host the Springstead Eagles at 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Weeki Wachee came up short against Central and fell 49-37. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gulf typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Springstead proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 52-37 victory over the Buccaneers.

Weeki Wachee better keep an eye on Ryan Sayre. He was instrumental in Springstead's win, going 6 for 12 en route to 14 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Arenas, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

Springstead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Springstead is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Weeki Wachee, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.

Weeki Wachee took a serious blow against Springstead in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 70-24. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Springstead's Zion McKenzie, who went 13 of 17 on his way to 30 points along with six boards and six steals.
