The Genoa Area Comets will square off against the Maumee Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Genoa Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Genoa Area didn't have quite enough to beat Clay and fell 4-3. The Comets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Genoa Area saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Witt, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Maumee got themselves on the board against Fostoria on Wednesday, but Fostoria never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Redmen. Considering the Panthers have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hannah Ruiz made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Reign Hurt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Maumee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fostoria only managed two.
The victory made it two in a row for Maumee and bumps their season record up to 10-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Genoa Area, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
