Baseball Recap: Richland County Finds Home Field Redemption Against Mattoon

There's no place like home for Richland County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Mattoon Greenwave on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Brody Redman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Richland County let Gavin Root and Cooper Hires run wild. Root went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Hires scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Hires a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keagan Puckett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Richland County now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mattoon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Coming up, Richland County will take on Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Richland County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Fairfield has averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Mattoon, they will square off against Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
