Baseball Game Preview: Valhalla Norsemen vs. Granite Hills Eagles

Valhalla is 1-9 against Granite Hills since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Norsemen will square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Valhalla and Helix, and Helix kept the tradition alive. The Norsemen fell 6-1 to the Highlanders on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Granite Hills strolled into their game on Monday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They never let Grossmont get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

Trevor Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Granite Hills got a massive performance out of Brenden Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Lewis a new career-high. Tommy Entrekin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Granite Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grossmont only posted an OBP of .292.

Granite Hills pushed their record up to 19-0-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Valhalla, their loss dropped their record down to 7-18.

Valhalla might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Granite Hills when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
