League recap: Smoky Mountain's Thompson delivers best pitching performance from past week

3A/2A WNC league recap: 4/3/13

Mark Thompson was the best pitcher in 3A/2A WNC this week, leading Smoky Mountain. Over the past week, he had three wins and 27 Ks.

Cal Raleigh was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .500 average, one home run and seven RBIs. Meanwhile, the Mustangs put together a 4-0 week.

Brevard's pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only one hit and one walk, both of which led the league.

Smoky Mountain led the league with 45 runs scored this week, but West Henderson still holds the season lead with 111 runs.

Thompson was the top pitcher this week as he paced the league with three wins and 27 Ks.

16 batters hit over .400 this week. The group was paced by Tyler Queen, who collected two hits in three at bats for a .667 average.



Brandon Staton drove in five runners on Thursday in North Henderson's 16-6 victory over Madison. He went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.

The Blue Devils' Johnny Stamey threw five shutout innings in a 10-0 win over East Henderson on Tuesday. He struck out 13, allowing one hit.
