Baseball Recap: Aurora Takes a Loss

Aurora's last matchup with Carl Junction could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. The Houn Dawgs lost 14-7 to the Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Houn Dawgs of the 4-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Sean Creasey and Memphis Mooneyham stepped up to the plate in a big way. Creasey scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Mooneyham scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Creasey is becoming a predictor of Aurora's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Casen Brown was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Aurora has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Carl Junction, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aurora will challenge Mt. Vernon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carl Junction, they will take on Ozark at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
