Basketball Game Preview: Atherton Wolverines vs. International Academy Phoenix

Atherton is 0-6 against International Academy since December of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Atherton Wolverines will look to defend their home court against the International Academy Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Friday, Atherton had to suffer through a 69-19 loss at the hands of New Standard Academy. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 702nd, while the Spartans are ranked 344th).

Meanwhile, International Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Hamady and fell 68-40. The game marked the Phoenix's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

International Academy's defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-2. As for Atherton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Atherton was taken down by International Academy 80-33 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Atherton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
