Basketball Game Preview: New Diana Eagles vs. Hughes Springs Mustangs

The New Diana Eagles will head out to take on the Hughes Springs Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. New Diana has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

New Diana took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They breezed by Daingerfield to the tune of 61-32. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jolie Ballard went supernova for New Diana, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine steals. Ballard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Starrmia Dixon, who posted 19 points and four steals.

New Diana was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Hughes Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jefferson.

New Diana's win bumped their record up to 14-17. As for Hughes Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-18.

New Diana didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hughes Springs in their previous matchup on January 14th, but they still walked away with a 40-36 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Diana since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
