Softball Recap: Gardner-South Wilmington Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Gardner-South Wilmington won the last time they faced Grant Park and things went their way on Thursday too. The Panthers walked away with a 7-3 win over the Dragons. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Maddie Simms made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Ella Mack was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kayla Scheuber, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Gardner-South Wilmington pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grant Park, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Looking ahead, Gardner-South Wilmington will be playing at home against Herscher at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.95 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Grant Park, they will face off against Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
