Softball Recap: Branford Buccaneers vs. Lafayette Hornets

With a playoff game on the line, Branford rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They never let the Lafayette Hornets onto the board and left with a 10-0 win. Winning may never get old, but Branford sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

The result came thanks to Laila Arnold's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mallory Blue, who went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Payten Bates, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Branford has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Lafayette, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season.
