Basketball Recap: Rusk Eagles vs. Madisonville Mustangs
The Rusk Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 60-35 loss at the hands of Madisonville. Rusk has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Rusk lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Damaya Hart, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Madisonville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ke'Myreul Wheaton out in front who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Wheaton has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quin'eysia Shaffer, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Rusk's loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-20. As for Madisonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rusk is on the road again on Friday and plays the Fightin' Indians at 6:15 p.m. on January 26th. Jacksonville is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. As for Madisonville, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Palestine will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 591st, while the Mustangs are ranked 105th).
