Basketball Game Preview: Hughes Springs Mustangs vs. Jefferson Bulldogs

Hughes Springs is 0-4 against Jefferson since January of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Hughes Springs Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jefferson Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Hughes Springs is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. The game between them and Bonham didn't end well, with Hughes Springs falling 47-32.

Meanwhile, Jefferson unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bullard. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bulldogs came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Panthers are ranked 436th).

Hughes Springs' loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Jefferson, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3.

Hughes Springs was taken down by Jefferson 83-36 when the teams last played back in February of 2020. Thankfully for Hughes Springs, Christian Shepard (who posted 27 points in addition to five assists and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
