Basketball Recap: Kianna Gulley Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fuquay - Varina

There's no place like home for Athens Drive, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They snuck past the Fuquay - Varina Bengals with a 35-30 victory on Friday. The Jaguars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bengals, too.

Athens Drive's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kianna Gulley, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Gulley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Kelly, who posted eight points and five steals.

Fuquay - Varina lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Chloe Webb, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds. Webb is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Abigail Meaney, who had three points in addition to 12 rebounds and four steals.

Athens Drive now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Fuquay - Varina, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Athens Drive wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-41 victory against Cleveland on the 10th. As for Fuquay - Varina, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-35 loss against Green Level on the 9th.
