Basketball Recap: Petersburg Takes a Loss

Petersburg saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Woodson Cowboys and fell 60-28. The contest marked the Buffaloes' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Petersburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gavin Horn posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Eliab Nava, who earned seven points.

Peyton Malcuit was nothing short of spectacular for Woodson: he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. Malcuit has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Romo, who had nine points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Petersburg and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Woodson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Petersburg will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Guthrie at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Woodson and Midway will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodson is facing Midway at the right time seeing as Midway is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
